I got to know my favourite car by watching the movie "Cars". Right at first sight, I fell in love with the old race car "Doc", which is a Hudson Hornet. First, I only liked his character, later I also fell in love with the car he is.

The Hudson Hornet is a special model that was built during the 50´s, from 1951 until 1953.
In these few years, the model slightly changed, different details were attached.

1951

As you can see, the striking "Hornet" ornament, that means the metal attachment on the side, went from rear to right behind the front tire. Also, the front ornaments around the bumper are characterized by two cross struts going from the "Hudson" sign down. This is also the model of "Doc", the "Cars"-Character.
The following models existed in 1951:
Club Coupé
Convertible Brougham
Hollywood Coupé
Sedan

1952

The metal "Hornet" attachment went from behind the tire to above the tire and became longer. The two cross struts are still there. More look changes weren´t made.

The 1953 Hudson Hornet is characterized by the missing cross struts around the bumper. Compared to the 52' Hornet, this is the only change in the look.

Club Coupé
Convertible Brougham
Hollywood Coupé
Sedan

1954-1957

In the following years, the Hornet still exists, but in a totally other way as we all know it.
That means, the design changed heavily. My personal opinion is that it was changed due to changes of fashion back then. The old design was already outdated, new, more modern designs were made.

Engine

The Hudson Hornet is characterized by the "Twin-H-Power" Engine, which was ahead of its time in the 50's. It had a very good performance, that is why the Hornet even was a race car. As a race car (like Doc is), the Hornet was unbeatable and remained winner of many championships.

Unfortunately, the company "Hudson" existed until 1957, no longer. Totally, they made cars between 1910 and 1957.

I have to say i'm rather impressed of this timeline of the Hornet era Step-Downs' and AMC era. Though it's a shame you don't include 54 in those special years, while the style did change underneath it was still the same Step-Down structure that Hudson introduced in 48, albeit for reasons unknown they welded the rear fenders instead of bolt them on like previous years.
